Chance Pair, a senior leader for Tahlequah High School’s baseball team, is making a name for himself on the diamond. The Tigers’ catcher, known for his versatility, has proven to be an excellent athlete due in part to his exceptional skills andalso for his unwavering dedication to the sport.
When asked about his motivation, Chance credits his family and his internal drive to succeed. “What motivates me is a few things: the people around me, my parents, and an internal want to be the best I can be.”
Speaking of his influences, Chance reveres his parents as his biggest role models. “My dad, Cody, has been my coach my whole life and has always been there to teach, coach, and support me. Same with my mom, the amount of time she’s spent hauling me around to ball fields and the sacrifices they’ve both made for me to play the game is the selflessness I try to mimic in my life.”
Chance’s success on the field didn’t come without hard work. “I’ve put in more hours than I can count into working on the sport, but I know that without the people around me, I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
A career highlight for Chance was winning a state title at Red Oak. “My sophomore year, I had the opportunity to play with my brother, Chase, for his senior year and win a state title at Red Oak,” he shared.
Within his team, Chance finds inspiration in his teammate Brayden Northington, relishing the competition and camaraderie in their practice sessions. “I enjoy practicing with Brayden. He is willing to put in the extra effort and stay after practice, and there’s always competition with him.”
Recognizing the unsung heroes within his team, Chance identified Braylin Woody as one of the least appreciated players, acknowledging his relentless hustle and positive demeanor. “He is always carrying something that isn’t his, hustling around and smiling at practice.”
For Chance, representing his school and community is a privilege: “I think it’s really cool to be able to be a part of the bigger picture and build the culture of a program. It really does feel like you are representing everyone on the team, and it builds a connection between you and them as well as the sport of baseball.”
