Getting to know Tahlequah’s Lukas Wooldridge – Presented by Tropical Smoothie Cafe

How long have you played basketball?

Lukas: I have played basketball for 13 years.

What’s it meant for you to play for your dad (Tahlequah first-year head coach Quinn Wooldridge)?

Lukas: Playing for my dad has been great.

How do you balance your time between sports and academics or other activities?

Lukas: When balancing academics and sports, I look to focus mostly on academics during the school day, and once it’s over, I lock into basketball mode.

Do you have any goals this year in basketball, academics, or other activities?

Lukas: I hope to make the state tournament this year and maintain all A’s in my classes.

What professional athlete (college or pro) do you model your game after and why?

Lukas: I model my gain after Luka Doncic, because of the way he can use his big frame to bounce his defenders off of him and how he can make plays for his teammates.

What is your favorite drill to do in training and why?

Lukas: My favorite drill to do is 6-person shooting because it is a great warmup and a great way to get shots up.

What are your strengths and what have you improved on the most over the course of your high school career?

Lukas: My best skill is definitely shooting, and I think my ball handling and defense have progressed the most over the last two years.

What are your thoughts on the current season up to this point from both an individual and team standpoint?

Lukas: I think our team is really beginning to round into postseason form, and I think I’m beginning to find a rhythm with the rest of the team.

What’s your most memorable basketball moment during your high school career?

Lukas: My most memorable moment in my high school career was beating No. 3 ranked Heritage Hall last year at Bethany, because we faced so many challenges as a team last year and we overcame them in that game to win.

What do you love most about being a student-athlete at your school and why?

Lukas: I like being able to go from my math class to competing against my teammates everyday.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What are some of your hobbies?

Lukas: I like working out, lifting, getting shots up on the gun, and playing NBA2K with my teammates.

What qualities do you think make someone a good teammate or leader?

Lukas: A good quality of a leader is being able to get the best out of everyone, which takes different methods for each person.

What are your plans after high school (college, work, etc)?

Lukas: I hope to be able to play college basketball.

What Tahlequah head coach Quinn Wooldridge said about Lukas: “Lukas is a versatile forward/guard who gained valuable experience last season as a freshman and continues to grow and develop. He’s a streaky scorer who will contribute across a lot of categories in his first season at Tahlequah.”
