After finishing fifth in the state in the 4X100 and 4X200 meter relays last year, a group of Lady Tiger runners are on a mission to improve that outcome this year and they’re on track to do just that.
“We’re picking up where we left off last year,” said assistant track coach Devan Murray who coaches the sprinters. “Currently we have the best time in the state in the 4X100 at 49.02 and the second-best time in the 4X200 at 1:43.22 which is also a new school record.”
The “we” he’s talking about are Khloe Frazier, Kiyah Edwards, Lakyn Adams and senior leader Riley Dotson, now in their second year of running together.
Another event the Lady Tigers hope to improve this year is the 4X400 meter relay. This year they have found a surprise in senior Mo Wilson who takes the place of Edwards in this longer event.
“She has mostly a hurdler and middle distance running background and she didn’t even run at all last year but when we saw her run the 300 meter hurdles in about 54 seconds this year we recruited her to run in the relay and even though we’ve only run that event a couple of times so far this season we’re fourth in the state right now and she’s been quite a surprise,” said Murray.
With about three weeks left until the Class 5A state track meet, the Lady Tigers will continue to hone their skills in conference and regionals meets in hopes of making it to the top of the podium in 2026.
