Tahlequah’s Jersey Retzloff – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Tahlequah Family Vision

Jersey Retzloff, a senior at Tahlequah High School, embodies the spirit of determination and excellence across multiple sports. “What motivates me is achieving my goals and realizing my dreams can be the most rewarding and motivating experience in life,” Jersey shared, highlighting her drive to succeed both on and off the field.

When it comes to role models, Jersey looks up to her mother as the epitome of strength and kindness. “My mom is not only my mother but also my ultimate role model.”

Reflecting on her academic journey, Jersey acknowledges the impact of her teachers in shaping her character and work ethic. “I feel like all of my teachers have a huge impact on me in my life because they always push me to be the best version of myself,” she said.

For Jersey, success in sports has been a product of multiple aspects of preparedness. “Success in my sport has required dedication, perseverance, relentless training and a passion that fuels my every effort.”

One of the highlights of Jersey’s athletic career has been the opportunity to compete in electric environments like the state tournament. “Getting the opportunity to place in big atmospheres such as the state tournament every year.”

Approaching games with a focused mindset, Jersey takes each match one step at a time while maintaining a competitive spirit. “I always take it one game at a time and know that I want to win. I’ll do what I need to make sure I have the best chance at that,” she explained, showcasing her strategic approach to sports.

In her team environment, Jersey values the competitive spirit among her teammates, finding joy and motivation in their shared drive for success. “I feel like I can do this [practice against] any of my teammates. We are all so competitive and that’s what makes it fun.”

Looking toward the future, Jersey plans to attend Northeastern State University to play softball and pursue dermatology. “I plan to attend NSU, play softball and specialize in dermatology for my career,” she shared.

Representing Tahlequah High School and her community holds deep meaning for Jersey, signifying a commitment to upholding values, setting examples and leaving a positive legacy. “Representing my school and community when I play means carrying the pride, values, and responsibility of a larger collective. Ultimately, it’s a privilege to contribute positively and leave a lasting legacy within my school and community.”
